Working on My Fitness

Every new year gives us the opportunity to make changes, set goals and work to be better at something.

This year, like most people, I want to try to make healthier choices for me and my family. One of those choices is to exercise on a more regular basis. During the day, I'm constantly running around with a toddler, but I wanted to take it to a more responsible and measurable level. Here is what I'm doing, how I'm staying on track, and ways you can join!

Find Motivation

Besides the new year, another reason I wanted to get into shape was to prepare for a fundraiser walk in April. My husband has end stage kidney disease and is currently on dialysis. I feel helpless some days because there's not much I can do to help him but be a good supporter and partner. This year, I decided to try and raise some awareness for kidney disease by getting involved with the National Kidney Foundation in their annual Kidney Walk. As soon as I found this walk, it gave me the motivation I needed to start walking and exercising more. I made a goal to walk a few miles every day, raise $250 as a Team Captain and spread the word about this disease.

If you'd like to join me on my walk, or find if there's a walk in your area, check out their website.

My point with mentioning this is to inspire you to find motivation in exercising. Every person can just say they want to exercise more, but without motivation, we're likely to find excuses and discontinue.

Have the right equipment

Once I started walking around with Ryan, I knew our stroller needed an upgrade. The plastic wheels on our Chicco Stroller was not the smoothest ride, and made long distance walks difficult. So, we got a jogging stroller instead and has made things much easier. The Graco Modes Jogger SE Jogging Stroller made the ride smooth, is maneuverable and will last us for a long time considering it will hold a child up to 50 pounds! For the most part, I just leave the jogger in the trunk of my car so that when we go to the park, I can unload and jog around with Ryan.
I also don't go anywhere without wearing my Apple Watch. It's strangely motivating to see all of my activity bars close at the end of the day. I wear it so much I have tan lines from it...so now I'm too embarrassed to take it off!
Also, it's to take care of your feet. I've had such trouble finding a comfortable shoe to wear for everyday use and exercising....until now! These adidas Women's Cloudfoam Pure Running Shoes look cute and are comfortable for all day wear.

Have a partner

If you need more motivation, someone to keep you in check or held accountable, then consider a walking buddy! I've always found friendly competition a great motivation too. See who can burn more calories, walk more miles or close all of their fitness goals for the week! Ryan, as do most toddlers, loves to go to the park. I like finding new places for him to play at, discovering the area, and finding paths to walk around for both of us to explore. I know he would go crazy spending every day cooped up at home, so he's part of my motivation to go outside more.

Have Fun with it

One way I get excited to go outside to workout is having something flattering, fun and well-fitting to wear! You can get $10 off your first FabFitFun box by using my referral code: FAB10

Exercising Does Not Require a Gym

Take it from me, I've joined gyms and regretted spending the money. Every workout I did at the gym I realized I could've just done at home or outside. For some, joining a gym is the best route because of the equipment and social aspect. For me, I hated loading everything up, being in a stinky massive room only to dread coming back again the next day. So I started routing my own trails at parks where I could relax afterwards while Ryan could run and play.
