What to Add to Your Baby Registry

Bun in the oven? Here's my recommendation for Baby Registry Must-Haves and Non-Essentials.

Congratulations! Now that you're pregnant, here's something fun to work on. When I was pregnant I had no idea what to add to my baby registry. I've made a list of the most important purchases we made, and some things that were not so necessary.

Crib

This is pretty obvious. I follow the guidelines by the American Academy of Pediatrics when they say Infants should sleep in the same bedroom as their parents – but on a separate surface, such as a crib or bassinet, and never on a couch, armchair or soft surface -- to decrease the risks of sleep-related deaths. So we bought this SNIGLAR Crib in Beech from IKEA. I liked that this crib can be adjusted as your child grows. The only complaint I have is that in the newborn stage, you still have to bend over pretty far into the crib to grab your littler one. Other cribs may not lower as far down as this one.
Besides the crib, you'll need to think about getting a crib mattress to fit the crib you purchase (make sure you measure!), and a few fitted crib sheets.

Dresser/Changing Table

I decided I wanted to go with a Dresser and a changing pad on top, rather than a separate changing table. This way, the dresser can become a piece of furniture our son can grow up with.
If you go with the Dresser option, you'll also need a Changing Pad, Fitted Changing Pad Covers, and Changing Pad Liners. I like using the liners in case there are any messes during changes, I can just wash the liner rather than the fitted cover. Just made life easier.

Car seat/Stroller

We went with the Chicco KeyFit 30 Infant Car Seat and Caddy Frame Stroller. We liked the reviews and was recommended to us by my sister-in-law. If you have two vehicles, you will want to invest in a second Car Seat Base so you don't have to constantly move one base back and forth.

Nursing

I also put things on the Baby Registry for myself. If you plan to breastfeed, you'll want: a  Nursing BraNursing Cover (which I also use over the car seat), Nursing Pads, (I also like the Bamboobies Nursing Pads because I went through a ton of disposable pads in the beginning) Nursing Pillow (I like the Brest Friend over the Boppy Nursing pillow. I have a long torso, so I always felt like the Boppy wasn't large enough.)

Pumping

If you plan to pump, be sure to check out my out my other post Exclusive Pumping Must-Haves
My Insurance covered the cost of my Spectra Breast Pump, so make sure you contact yours to see if it's covered. But you'll also want: Hands-free Pumping BraMilk Storage Bottles/Bags (I prefer the bottles, and be sure the bottles you get fit the machine you're using), Drying Rack with AccessoriesBaby Bottles (I suggest getting a few different brands of bottles because you don't know what your child will prefer)

Diapering

This will depend on whether you choose to go with Disposable or Cloth Diapers. We started with disposable diapers but it started to get really costly and now mainly use cloth diapers. If you go with disposable diapers, this is where a subscription using Amazon Prime would be really helpful. You just sign up for a monthly shipment of diapers/wipes and you never have to worry about ordering them or going to the store. They just show up on your doorstep.
hiccapop Wipe Warmer and Baby Wet Wipes Dispenser is more of a luxury item, but we have one in the nursery.
If you decide to go the Cloth Diaper route, Charlie Banana Cloth Diapers would probably be the easiest transition.
You'll also want a Portable Diaper Changing PadWet/Dry Bag for diaper bagDiaper Bag

Child Care

First Aid Kit is very important and useful. I use Burt's Bees Baby Lotion every day, tried and true Aquaphor Diaper Rash Cream, and Motherlove Nipple Cream. As far as baby camera's go, we actually use Nest Cam which is a security camera. But, we can see what's going on in his nursery, where the camera is setup, using any smart device (ipad, iphone, etc.). We love our Marpac Dohm Classic White Noise Sound Machine so much that we actually have two! One for our room and one in the nursery. Baby Car Mirror for Back Seat

Bottles

We use the Joovy Boob 5oz. bottles, and seem to be the ones Ryan most prefers. Because I occasionally refrigerate breast milk or formula we got the Philips AVENT Bottle Warmer. Newborns spit up a lot, so you'll want a few Burp Cloths.

Bath Time

Again, we are fans of Burt's Bees Products and went with their shampoo/wash set. We also use their washcloths and hooded towels. We bought the Fisher-Price 4-in-1 Sling 'n Seat Tub because again, we wanted something Ryan could use for more than a couple months. We didn't buy any toys for the bath yet, but I'm sure we'll invest in a few once he's a little more alert and aware.

Play Time

This is where I had some fun. I use Ryan's Skip Hop Silver Lining Cloud Activity Gym every day with him. He loves to try to grab the toys hanging above him, and it's a soft place for him to do tummy time, or just hang out with mommy. If we're in the kitchen, and need a place for Ryan to sit, we'll have him in his 4moms mamaRoo. It's so fun to watch how mesmerized he is with the toys that hang above him.

These are just my suggestions based on what we like and have used. You can find my minimalist Baby Registry List here
